 Key News 2021

Oct 18, 2021 - Shipmates! I have been in contact with Al and Diane Singleman concerning a bench for the Cold War Memorial at Patriot's Point in Charleston SC. I got in contact with the Memorial POC, Rusty Pickett, and we have ordered a bench. Al and Diane Said that we have more than enough money in the Reunion Fund to pay for this so donations will not be asked for. The bench was ordered on 15 Sep 21 and should be done in 10-12 weeks. It will be put in place before our Reunion in May 2022. I will be going to Patriot's Point soon to take pictures around the Memorial and post them on our two Facebook Groups and this web page. As a group, we can vote on where we would like the bench to be. It can't be under a tree and has to have room for a boom truck to put it in place.
Once the bench is finished, I will post the date and time it will be installed so anyone from the local area, or anywhere else, is more than welcome to attend the installation.
Fare Winds and Following Seas to you all.

October 18, 2021 - Regretfully, we have to announce the passing of another shipmate, Lance Scott Hartman on June 6, 2021. We all send our deepest sympathies to his family and friends. Lance served on the Key Blue Crew in the early 70's. His obituary can be found in Eternal Patrol. Rest in peace shipmate. Job well done.

August 9, 2021 - Reunion News: From Diane Singleman

Shipmates,
Attached is the registration form (at bottom) that needs to be completed by everyone who plans to attend the reunion & go to any of our events. This
needs to be returned to me by April 3, 2022.

If you need to reserve a room, call 1-843-856-8817 & give our group code BD9805 and identify yourself as a Key reunion attendee in order to
get our special rate. Please reserve your room as soon as you think you might be attending. I have a limited number of rooms in our block and can
only add more at our rate when needed if they have rooms available. You can always cancel your room if something changes your plan to attend.

If you plan to go to Patriots Point & tour the Yorktown, there have been some changes here. There is no longer a snack bar on board where
you can get burgers & other lunch items. The is now a vending machine area that sells sandwiches & other items. On shore there are food trucks
available to purchase lunch. However, I have reserved the CPO Galley & we will have a choice of 3 different box lunches available for you to
order. I will need you to complete your lunch choice on the registration form, so I know how many meals to order. If you will be ordering a
lunch, please have this information to me by at least by Mar. 29, 2022.

As always, if you have any questions, just email me or call me at 518-355-2119.

Looking forward to seeing everyone again. Stay healthy & hopefully we will all be together again.

Diane

Jun 11, 2021 - Reunion 2022 news: Diane Singleman tells me that the plans for the next Key reunion in Charleston, SC is well underway.  Save the first week of May, 2022 (exact dates to be announced soon).  It will be great to get together again after this long break.

Jun 11, 2021 - Received the below e-mails regarding the health of Key shipmate George Lefebre 69 - 74 E-Div.

Good afternoon.

I am Dennis M. Dunn MM3, DD789

My wife and I were classmates and are friends with George & Val Lefebre. We still visit them every two weeks in Jackson, Wyoming. I am sorry to report that George has severe dementia and an MRI shows that many areas of his brain have atrophied. He no longer remembers his days on the boat or in the Navy. Hell, George doesn't remember us and we drank a lot off beer together.

If you have a reunion this year drink a glass to him, and Val could use your prayers.

Sincerely,
Dennis M. Dunn

I responded to Dennis that I would put his message on the web site and be sure to toast George at our next reunion.  He responded:

Thank you for the kind reply.

George and Val are headed to Australia in early June. His daughter is to be married there at the end of June. Val is Australian and she told us last weekend that they may stay. George is noticeably worse and he can receive much more intensive help in Australia than here.

If Sandra and I hear anything we will let you know.

If you are in Indianapolis around the 9th of September 2021 the beer is free.

Sincerely,
Dennis

Please keep George in your prayers as he goes through this most difficult time of his life.  And also do not forget to include his Key wife Val, a true angel.

Apr 3, 2021 - We received notice of the ill health of a Key shipmate Dick Morin Blue Crew 78 - 82.  Dick was injured years ago in an accident and was paralyzed from the neck down.  Some friends of his contacted us and wanted to get a Key ball cap for him for Christmas.  No way were we going to let them purchase the hat.  On behalf of the entire Key family, we send Dick a Key Hat.  You can see him in the photo below proudly wearing the cap.  If any of you remember Dick, please let us know and we can put you in contact with him.  He would love to hear from old shipmates.
